Happy New Year! As we are hard at work planning for the 2014 season, it is with great pride that I can honestly say what a wonderful year 2013 was for the Burros. We finished with our year-end tackle and cheer banquet at DiNolfo’s and concluded our 50th Anniversary season. How many youth programs can say that? The Burros can!
The Burros’ board of directors has been working on getting ready for registration for the coming year. I would like to welcome Todd O’Rourke, Gerry Reyna, and Mike Beneturski to the board. Todd has been with the Burros for many years and just enjoyed his son’s 8th grade varsity heavy season ending with the national championship. Gerry has also been with the Burros for many years and has a son who has graduated from the program and two still participating. Mike has been a coach with the Burros and was part of our varsity heavyweight coaching staff, who fought hard for an undefeated regular season and a national championship. We welcome their experience and hard work!
I wanted to share some of the NEW additions for the Burros in 2014:
Online Registration – this year, all registrations will be done online. Look for the early bird registration beginning February 15 and ending March 15 to take advantage of the discount. More details with be forthcoming. Check the Burros’ website and emails.
Refer-a-Friend is back this year. Bring in a new family to the Burros and receive $25 cash back for each. A new family is one that was not part of the Burros in 2013. The form to request your cash back will be on the website soon under the documents page.
Coaches’ applications for the 2014 year are on the Burros’ website. If you’re interested in coaching Flag, Cheer or Tackle, please fill out the form and submit your applications. Coaching is a privilege and one of the most rewarding things you can do within the Burros organization. We are always looking for dedicated, informed individuals to teach and mentor our boys and girls. Coaching applications are due February 15.
Widget 6-7 year olds – the Burros have expanded their younger widget age group to 6-7 year olds who are interested in learning the fundamentals and techniques of tackle. This is a beginning level of tackle that will compete with other teams within our league of the same age group. Visit the Burros’ website for more information.
Flag 9-10 year olds – the Burros have expanded their flag program to include 9-10 year old level. Details will be forthcoming on our Burros’ Flag page on the website.
Economic Stimulus -- As we understand times have not fully recovered for a lot of us, we are again offering cash back for obtaining sponsorships. All the information is on the website on the documents page, called “Economic Stimulus”. Bring in sponsors to the Burros and you can potentially recoup 100% of your registration fees.
As I begin my 3rd year as president of the Burros, I am excited to extend this opportunity to the youth in Mokena in order to foster their athletic and social skills in football and cheerleading. I am continually looking for ideas to make the program better for everyone. If you have an idea or thought, email me at
. I am interested in what is going on and what we can do to improve.
As always, thank you for the privilege of being your Board President and for being a part of this great organization as we celebrate our 51st season! If there is anything we can do for you, let us know. You can reach any board member at
